Project Complete
Between the end of 2021 and start of 2022 our team spent a total of two months on the island of Santiago where we made various small projects and work-shops.
The first activities we made involved the cleaning of various beaches in the villages such as Tarrafal, Chao Bom and Ribera da Prata where we wanted to involve children and people of all ages.
With some of the trash we collected we were able to make artistic workshops in the different schools around these towns and the results where better than anything we expected. From musical classes to dance, cinema, circus and art, the children where all super enthusiastic to participate in the various projects we had organized.
Finally maybe one of the most satisfying projects was the realisation of a playground in the small village of Fazenda, a town which the closest school is 4Km away and as a child it is difficult to be fully entertained. This project consisted in making the playground with as much recycled material as possible.

As time passes we are every day more clear on our goal on the Island of Santiago which is part of the Cap Vert arcipelago. On our stay there we will concentrate our energy on activities starting mid December with a clear theme of ecology and recycling.
As many African continents Cape Verde is over-run by trash especially plastic and our goal is to clean up as much as we can and recycle the material by transforming it in something useful.
From cleaning up beaches to building chill out zones and children’s playgrounds with what we pick up, our goal is to raise awareness on the importance of keeping these places clean and beautiful.
The importance of keeping beaches clean not only are important visually, but also to protect the fragile ecosystem. Every year on the various islands, sea turtles come to lay their eggs and this progress is compromised by waste pollution. That’s why not only we want to support the idea of keeping the beaches clean, but we also want to give a hand to a local villager whom has an area on the beach where he takes care of the turtles eggs until the day they hatch.
Although the theme is going to be about ecology throughout the whole month, every day of the week we will propose a different activity to get together with the local villagers. From art, music and dance we want to propose to the villages around various work-shops where we can have a cultural exchange.

MUNDO SABI will be a mix of music, sculpture, street art, traditional circus and ecology which, by mixing local and international artists, aims to create a series of events suitable for any age group. By supporting the Camara Municipal Do Tarrafal, the young people of the “Klube Nos Talento Ribeira das Prata” association and the “Nos Causa” association of Tarrafal want to create participatory Ateliers that in the weeks preceding the event will allow the inhabitants of the village (and neighbors) to approach step by step the arts that we want to introduce and to participate concretely in the creation of all this; In doing so we aim to create a more stable and lasting relationship with people to ensure that they recognize themselves as an active part of the organization. The main idea is to make people discover something new in their life that (for various reasons) would have no way of knowing all this, thus allowing them to get to express themselves artistically through the arts that are accessible to anyone and who do not need a budget to be practiced. In addition, by raising awareness of the surrounding environment, we will allow local young people to better understand the paradise in which they live in.
That said, we want to create a stable base on the island by relying on the spaces of the Klube Nos Talento Ribeira das Prata association where we will try to help the locals to continue the work done during our joint path, giving the possibility to different people to be able to cultivate their passions. In parallel with the artistic aspect of our event, we also want to commit ourselves to the ecological level. After meeting Calep we discovered that Ribeira das Prata is home to one of the only beaches on the island used by sea turtles to lay their eggs; Calep takes care of these eggs and then grows the hatchling in a healthy and safe environment until they are able to leave at sea. Unfortunately, not having sufficient financial aid, his ability to work on the maintenance of the species is very limited and he is often forced to put the small turtles back into the water earlier than expected; To help him in his work we will organize awareness days in which, helped by the villagers, we will clean up the beach of waste and, during all the months prior to the event, we will manage a collection of useful material here in Europe that will be handed over to him in a first part this winter and later during the real and proper course of the event. By combining Art and Ecology we will create a unique and unforgettable event for all the people who will participate.
